RestylaneŽ and PerlaneŽ Injections by Board Certified Plastic Surgeon serving San Diego and Riverside County.
RestylaneŽ products are cosmetic dermal fillers that replace lost volume and restore youthful contours to the skin to smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).
Restylane and PerlaneŽ are made of hyaluronic acid. In the human body, natural hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane and Perlane has been modified slightly to last longer than the body's hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane and Perlane is produced by a biotechnical process.
Restylane and Perlane are hydrophilic or "water loving." The hydrophilic nature of these hyaluronic acid molecules and their three dimensional structure allows them to bind many times their own weight in water. As hyaluronic acid begins to degrade, each molecule binds to more water which helps to maintain its volume for about six months.
Restylane and Perlane contain no animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions. Restylane and Perlane contain trace amounts of gram-positive bacterial proteins and are contraindicated for patients with a history of allergies to such material. No allergy testing is required before use.
Where Can RestylaneŽ and PerlaneŽ be used?
RestylaneŽ and PerlaneŽ are FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane has been used in over 70 countries and in more than 1.4 million treatments in the U.S. Perlane has been used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons worldwide since 2000.Optimal Wrinkle Correction with RestylaneŽ and PerlaneŽ.
The unique hyaluronic acid gel in RestylaneŽ and PerlaneŽ restores lost volume and fullness to the skin to correct the lines that run from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Perlane is composed of larger gel particles than Restylane and is intended for deeper injection to add volume for structural support and lift. In all cases, the procedure is non-surgical, and the results are virtually instantaneous.Sufficient volume of Restylane or Perlane should be injected depending on the severity of nasolabial folds to obtain optimal correction as determined by your physician. The availability of both products provides your physician with different treatment options. Your physician can best determine the optimal treatment amount.
How long do the effects of RestylaneŽ and PerlaneŽ last?
RestylaneŽ and PerlaneŽ are proven to deliver long-lasting results. Studies have shown that Restylane lasts about six months. Perlane lasts at least six months in a majority of patients.* The patented stabilization technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect for those time periods. How long the aesthetic correction lasts is very individual. Talk with your doctor about the benefits of scheduling a follow-up appointment in about six months.
What to expect before and during treatment.
RestylaneŽ restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). After your treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days. Although rare, red or swollen small bumps may occur. If you have had facial cold sores before, an injection can cause another outbreak. In rare circumstances, the doctor may inject into a blood vessel, which can damage the skin. To avoid bruising or bleeding, you should not use Restylane if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18, you should not use Restylane.RestylaneŽ should not be used by people with previous bad allergies, particularly to certain microorganisms known as gram positive bacteria, by people with previous bad allergies to drugs that have required in-hospital treatment, or by people with bleeding disorders. Restylane should not be injected anywhere except the skin or just under the skin.
The use of RestylaneŽ at the site of skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infection should be postponed until healing is complete. Use of Restylane in these instances could delay healing or make your skin problems worse.
